We all dream dreams but only few of us work on our dreams. You don't have to be in Disneyland for dreams to come true. Actualize your dream and work on them. Your dream may not bring you the fee. It may however set many free. It enables you accomplish the deed knowing you have followed your own creed.
Lets take a look at some people who articulated their dreams and how long it took before they become reality.
1.MAHATMA GHANDI(Politician)
Mohatma Ghandi had a dream for India, put simply, gaining independence from united kingdom through non violence.
His words were;
"When i despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end , they always fall think of it, always."
"What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty and democracy?"
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
India gained independence through non violence.
Mahatma was so passionate about his dreams, he gave a speech in the House of Commons in England that resulted in a standing ovation. Just picture a scantily dressed Asian receiving a standing ovation from the Britons. What a feat.
2.BILL GATES(information Technology Guru)
These are his words, they simply give a more focused picture.
"When i was 19, I caught sight of the future and based on my career on what i saw. I turned out to have been right" Bill Gates
This is what he said about his journey.
"Believe me, we know a lot about failures at Microsoft, these failures are product failures, rather than consequences of defective vision, the first microsoft spreadsheet flopped, so did the first database." Bill Gates admitted that the lessons of much of this failure resulted in the enormous success of the products that were to follow for Microsoft.
He said,"vision does not start in the far horizon or even the middle distance. It begins right under your nose, in the proper understanding of what is going on in the here and now. Vision is not a competitive advantage it has to be accompanied by the action that will turn the vision into reality."
Bill Gates is referred to as master of the information Age. Our Generation will never forget this great man. Thanks to his Vision of the future.
3.MOTHER TERESA(Nun)
Mother Teresa was born in Albania, but made a difference in Calcutta in India. Mother Teresa had a vision of tending to the needs of the destitute and the starving.
Her first year was fraught with difficulties. She had no income and had to resort to begging for food and supplies. Teresa experienced doubt, loneliness and the temptation to return to the comfort of convent life during these early months.
She wrote in her diary:
"Our Lord wants me to be a free nun covered with the poverty of the cross. Today i learned a good lesson. The poverty of the poor must be so hard for them. While looking for a home i walked and walked till my arms and legs ached. I thought how much they must ache in body and soul, looking for home, food and health. Then the comfort of Loreto (her former order) came to tempt me. 'You have only to say the word and all that will be yours again,' the tempter kept on saying...Of free choice, my God, and out of love for you, I desire to remain and do whatever may be your Holy will in my regard.I did not let a single tear come.
Her philosophy and implementation have faced some criticism. While noting how little evidence mother Teresa's critics were able to find against her, The order soon began to attract both recruits and charitable donations, and by 1960s all through the 1990s she had opened hospices, orphanages, and leper houses all over india. Mother Teresa then expanded the order throughout the globe.
I heard Mother Teresa did not own an international passport but she traveled the word. That is an impact of her dream.
4.OPRAH WINFREY(TV Hostess)
Her dream in her own words were "to stretch out of myself an touch lives. Be a voice to speak to people, to see themselves as their best."
I always knew what i wanted to do. In other words she had a dream.
In her quest to realize her dreams, she was demoted as a News Anchor. Just in case you missed what happened she was demoted but she landed another job called "People are talking".
She said,"This is natural to me and this is my dream come true."
Oprah wanted to grow in her profession, therefore she decided to move to Chicago although Baltimore had always been home. Everyone discourage the move(Dream killers)
She auditioned for the show Oprah and it was an instant success but the amazing thing about the whole saga was her jottings in her diary in 1985 before her show went national.
"I keep wandering if my life will change, why have i been so blessed. It is either i have an important work or this work is important."
I acknowledge to the universe an end of era and the beginning of a new era.
This is another landmark a very big one, i ask God to bless the show but i know it is already done."
She can refer back to twenty years back ago now because she wrote it down.
